When downloading files i have a long Verifying phase with IE?

Ever since i patched up( via windowsupdate) my Windows Vista machine. i have an odd problem.

When i download files from the internet, i have to sit and wait while the download windows says "verifying" at the top of the box.

This is getting annoying because it takes about 5 minutes to open and read a 25K text file i downloaded.

Any Ideas on how to stop this?

p.s i am using avast and my antivirus scanner

IE is probably scanning the page for phishing attack issues. While you can disable this, a typical virus protector won't do this for you.
