Windows 98se doesnt have a system restore so you will have to chase down where the error is coming from. If you get it before windows starts, check you autoexec.bat and config.sys. If you get it when windows is booting look in system.ini and win.ini. If you don't find it ther, click start / run and run regedit. when it starts use the search function to look for the same text that is displayed in the error ''C:\filename''. Also - look in start/programs/startup and see if the icon for the old program is there and remove it.

Worst case (or maybe easiest way) scenerio - reinstall the software and use its unistall feature - should remove it then.

If it is Norton antivirus, go to their website www.symantec.com and they have removal tools for all versions of their software that you can d/l and run that will get rid of any references to their software.

I had something corrupted on my hard-drive and couldn't install most software, including any anti-virus programs. I finally found a trial version online that would install, and discovered I had 26 viruses--after nearly a year without protection, it was no surprise. I then installed Norton Antivirus, Microsoft office, and the usual games I've had on the last 3 computers I've owned. when you reinstall windows, do you do it from a master backup. I used to do that but i found that it does not get rid of your ''my documents'' and just reinstalls xp over the top. The only way i managed to sort mine was to completely format the hard drive and reinstall xp from an original xp install disk. I then just started again. I did however go through all my docs and take all the pictures that i know are good and not corrupted and save them to cd to copy back onto my pc once windows was reinstalled.

Cell phone viruses are uncommon and you likely do not have one. What you need to do is try a reboot (shut down, take out battery, wait 5 mins, put battery back in, restart). IF that doesn't work try a Master reset (most phone manuals will tell you how). That usually solves most phone problems

A lot of viruses sit in RAM, the registry and System Restore so deleting these can be quite time consuming but thankfully not impossible.

First of all turn off System Restore by right clicking on 鈥楳y Computer鈥?%26gt; Properties %26gt; System Restore. Now enable 鈥淭urn off system restore on all drives鈥?%26gt; click apply %26gt; click ok.

Re-boot your computer in Safe Mode 鈥?(achieved by pressing F8 continually during boot up) this should clear out the viruses in RAM and the registry. Now run your anti virus software and delete or quarantine any viruses found.

Re-boot your computer in normal mode and complete another virus check. If all comes back clean turn on System Restore.

Both of these phones seem to have slowed in response after only four months of use. I have loaded both in its internal memories and memory cards loads of files and applications downloaded from the internet either through my computers or the phones itself. I am suspecting an infection, but have no additional proof other than the slowed response.

You do not need an antivirus for those phones, just plug them to your computer and run your computer's antivirus/antispyware, I think that's enough. Maybe you have a lot of applications running on both phones as you said before, remember that they are just cell phones with some extra functions like MP3 players, camera, etc. All the storage devices become slower depending on the amount of data inside them.

presently I have 80 gb hard disk with win 98se in my c drive of 20gb and it is only 2.40 gb used. If your going to a 64 bit OS with the upgrades 20gb isn't enough for Vista. You'll have plenty of room with XP x64 though. and I would recommend you ''ghost'' your current drive to a SATA hard drive.

Free AVG is one of the worst,as far as my personal experience goes.When I used it ,I had so many unexpected problems,still no virus was found by an updated avg.Later mcafee detected around 30 infected files.

In Windows XP and prior you have an Add/Remove programs under control panel(start-%26gt;settings-%26gt;control panel). Look for Norton or Symantec products and remove there. That should uninstall.

For example, AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) also downloads WeatherBug unless you do a ''custom'' install. Go to cnet.com and download something like SpyBot for free. Why would you want to download a virus? No need to. If you want to test your antivirus program, do it when the time is right. I would say once a week or every two weeks to give your computer a good rundown of stuff that needs to be removed.

If you download more than one anti-virus program, make sure you only have one running at startup. when I try to update windows or antivirs, or just type word ''antivirus'' in google, the window shuts immediately by itself. I have absolutely no clue how the spywares generate in my computer, but every day if I do not clean the local disk manually, it is filled with some sort of porn spywares or worms or whatever is that. I have absolutely no idea how those files are downloaded in my computer. I do not go to porn sites at all and I am the only user of my computer. I had Ares and thought it was bringing all those crap, but it's doing the same thing even if I deleted that program. I have AVG antivirus and when scanning it's showing the porn files in the locations which I do not see. I enabled hidden file view, but it's still not showing up and AVG is still scanning those locations. Two Antivirus?

I have the SBC antivirus but it doesn't really do much and doesn't delete my viruses so I downloaded a free one, but when I was installing it it said that having two antiviruses could create system problems. I don't really want to uninstall the sbcone, but is it safe to install the new one. The new one is called bitdefender antiviris if that helps. You may need Smtifraud fix or Vundo fix.

You can try Superantispyware and A-Squared Free 3.0 to try and remove them. Run them in safe mode.

If cleaned, delete Windows system restore points.

I have a feeling that I have viruses and spyware on my computer. I currently am using the free edition of AVG, and its not very effective. It hasn't found a SINGLE virus on my computer, and I doubt that. I'm also using Spybot S%26D which doesn't seem to be helping and only slowing my computer down. I haven't used norton but most firewalls have adjustable security. Their is probably an options button in a firewall settings page.

However, you should think yourself lucky, my antispy thinks my modem is a virus, and I had to put it on an exceptions tag, or ignore tag.

You will probably find the same in norton.

I got infected with VIRUSHEAT - it comes like a fake video codec. This, while I was protected by BITDEFENDER Internet Security 2008, which I bought one week ago. Then I could not remove it with bitdefender. Then somehow I managed to remove it with Malwarebytes Antimalware. Then - as I needed to reinstall windows anyway, I got BitD out, put Kaspersky in, and downloaded virus heat again. Again, I got infected, and kaspersky could not remove it. Then with NOD32, and got infected, but then NOD got it out.

The only effective antivirus was Avira free, which stopped it. but it has no firewall, no antispam, no antispyware. Is there anything truly reliable and complete, without having to install 3 or 4 security software - antivirus, antispam, antyspyware, firewall?
